It’s time we became more “clannish”

Why in the world do so many of you buy your automobiles outside Cumberland County? A vehicle is the largest sales tax object most of us ever purchase, and it’s downright embarrassing to see how many of them were purchased in Cookeville, Sparta, Harriman, Oak Ridge and Knoxville. We need to shop at home! And I mean shop for everything at home. We are all doing our home county and city a disservice by taking so many of our purchases out of town. The rest of the story

The Palace Theatre; More than a movie house!

For years it was known as the Movie House on Main Street, and for many, it was where they saw their first motion picture. 
After years of neglect, the old Palace Theatre became an eyesore for many, and in 1997 became the center of debate. Save it for the future, or tear it down?  A campaign to save the “Jewel of Main Street” ensued and it was put on the ballot for the public to decide.
