Dr. Anthony Wilson of the Crossville Medical Group has joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville.
“I will be spending more time teaching, but this will have little effect for my patients, as far as normal followup appointments for chronic medical problems,” Dr. Wilson said. “Regularly-scheduled appointments can usually be made within a week or two, depending on my teaching schedule. For sick appointments, you can always be seen the day you are sick, with several options available in my absence.”
Beginning in June, Dr. Wilson, a Crossville native who has practiced in his hometown the past eight years, will be be at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville one week out of every four. He will continue his practice at Crossville Medical Group the other three weeks of the month.
“My colleagues at Crossville Medical Group are all excellent physicians,” Dr. Wilson said. “My Family Medicine partners, along with physician assistants, will take care of my patients during the times I’m in Knoxville.”
The Walk-in Clinic at CMG is staffed from 8:00-5:00 Monday through Friday and is available for Dr. Wilson’s patients, too.
“I am grateful to my hometown for the opportunity to practice in the town I know and love,” Dr. Wilson said. “It is my hope that the relationship as faculty of the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine will bring new opportunities to the medical community in Crossville.”
Background
Dr. Wilson said he first became interested in teaching when “after my graduation from Tennessee Tech University, I became a researcher in the Water Center and an instructor of biology.” When he later served as chief resident of Family Medicine at UT-Knoxville, he coordinated teaching for residents and medical students.
Dr. Wilson and several other local physicians have been on the faculty of Lincoln Memorial University’s DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine the past two years, and he has been coordinating the Family Medicine rotation in Crossville.
“In recent months, I have spent a few weeks at the University of Tennessee Department of Family Medicine at UT Hospital where I teach residents,” Dr. Wilson said. “During the course of my time there, I have been asked to come more often.”
In the next issue of Crossville LIFE, Dr. Wilson will begin a column dealing with a variety of medical topics, “focusing on optimal healthy living, ” he said. “Making good choices in diet, exercise, and health matters can dramatically impact both the quality and length of life. Education of patients, medical students and residents has been one of my interests for many years.”
