Cumberland County blessed with several authors

By Don Napier

We all know that our community is crammed full of talented people. This talent also includes the talent to write. There are a number of talented people in Cumberland County who have published books. This issue, we are going to take a look at some of the authors and their books. We know there are many more people out there who are published, but these are some of my acquaintances.

JoAnne Bunyak

JoAnn published her first book, “Puddin’ For Breakfast,”  about three years ago.  It is set in the mountains of western Pennsylvania, in the fictional coal mining town of Gunther. JoAnne’s next book was “Kiss The Fly.” The trilogy was complete with the publishing of “Lizzy’s Bridge.”

A retired Registered Nurse, JoAnne Bunyak lives in Fairfield Glade, moving here about 10 years ago from Michigan. She served as a board member, vice-president and publicist for philanthropic organizations in the area. She and her husband Bernie, have been married for 52 years.

All three of JoAnne’s books are available from her publisher, Xlibris Corporation in hard or soft cover or as an ebook.

Jay Fox

Jay Fox, well-known singer and entertainer in and around Crossville, has written a very moving book titled, “Triumph Over Tragedy,” chronicling his battle with a deadly infection caused by what was thought to be, at the time, a harmless sting from a wasp.

Jay’s book begins with his early days in Bermuda before he moved to the states. Later, it becomes a personal story about his triumph over the loss of his leg and what very nearly was the loss of his life, as he battled against Streptococcal flesh-eating bacteria. The book is filled with many photographs of him as a young man,- and of his three daughters.

If you want a copy of his book, you can call Jay Fox a 931-267-0434 or email [email protected]. or Write to: Jay Fox, 163 Drew Howard Road, Crossville, TN 38558 The cost per book is $13.95 + $3.00 to mail. He will deliver in Crossvile only, to save the customer $3.00 .

Ellie Gustin

Ellie Gustin is in her second printing of her “Book of Poems,”  some dating back to before WWII. Napier Media published the second printing of her poem book. It was handsomely illustrated by her grandaughter Daniele Gustin. Ellie also has written a manuscript which is an excellent children’s story, where she used her grandson Gary as a central figure in a fictional tale, “Gary’s Ghost.”

Ellie has been writing poems since she was a teenager. Now in her seventies, she said she thought she should write them down for friends and family to see how she have whiled away the hours.

Tip to future authors: Ellie has kept paper and pencil on her bedside table at night to write down fleeting thoughts that awaken her (before they totally disappear.)

If you want to buy one of Ellie’s books, contact her at 484-9195.

Dorothy Dale

She is said to have collected them over the last sixty year. There are also some comments on some of the mission trips which she went on.
