Pete Souza, Jessie Kerley join Danny Wyatt, George Marlow and Mayor J.H. Graham III to create the current administration.
By Don NapierThe public got their first glimpse of the new city hall at 392 North Main Street on November 19, as the City Judge Tom Bean conducted the swearing-in ceremonies for recently elected councilmen Pete Souza and Jessie Kerley.
Only the main floor was open for the reception, which lasted about 60 minutes before the meeting was called to order in the main council chambers. Mayor Pro-Tem Danny Wyatt conducted the meeting in the absence of Mayor JH Graham, who was attending classes in Cookeville for continuing education.
The Christmas Open House will be held at the new city hall on Thursday, Dec. 13th from 6 – 9 p.m. At that time, all four floors of the building will be opened up and tours will take visitors all over the building, which formerly housed Regions Bank.
New council members Pete Souza and Jesse Kerley were sworn in to start their four-year terms on the council. The two men were also presented with their certificates of election by Cumberland County Election Commission Chairman Linda Baehr-Caldwell.
No doubt there was a lot of excitement connected to the swearing-in ceremonies of the two new councilmen, but the building was also part of the draw. People seemed very interested in the new location and many compliments were overheard by visitors who seemed to really like the new digs.
The City officially took possession of the building on Dec. 3, 2012. Old city hall closed on Monday, Dec. 3rd and made the move. They reopened for business on Tues. Dec. 4th.
Meanwhile, the City Police Department is moving into the old City Hall location.
